Chinese
tourists are visiting Jeju Island in record numbers. According to Jeju Special
Self-Governing Province, 411,000 Chinese tourists have visited Jeju Island so
far this year, as of October 2.
This is a huge increase over last year
when a total of 406,164 Chinese tourists visited Jeju Island from January to
December.
In addition, a total of 737,713 tourists from overseas
including Chinese tourists have visited Jeju this year, a 23.5-percent increase
compared to last year.
At the beginning of the year, there weren’t many
Chinese tourists visiting Jeju Island due to several reasons, such as the
tension on the Korean Peninsula and cold weather in Korea, but starting in July
the number of Chinese tourists visiting Jeju Island has exploded.
This is
due to the convenient cruise channels from China to Jeju Island and also the
various group tour programs held by companies in China.
In addition,
due to China’s long weekend holiday from September 30 to October 7, there will
be about 25,000 tourists coming to Jeju.
